Instructor: Ace Hicks
"Ace Hicks is a multidisciplinary artist currently based out of Vancouver Island. Her first love and focus is acting, but that has broadened to include directing, writing, photography and videography. Driven by a strong desire to share authentically and vulnerably, her storytelling style leans towards soulful, intimate, intuitive and candid. With over twenty years of film and television experience, recent credits include; The Good Witch, Frankie Drake, Getting to Know You, The Twelve Trees of Christmas, Bitten, Hemlock Grove, the award winning short film, Living Together and recently her directorial debut on the short film, Take Care Of Me. She has also been in over fifty national and US National commercials. Her training foundation began at Spotlight Academy as a teenager, which led to a full scholarship to train under Mel Tuck at Vancouver Actors Studio out of the Art Institute of Burnaby. Passionate about filmmaking, she then studied under Garwin Sanford and received a certificate in film acting from Langara College. In her following years in Toronto, she trained intensively in the Meisner technique with John Riven, as well as extensively studying with Jock Macdonald and Jane Moffat, exploring Stanislavski’s Method acting techniques. When not in front or behind a camera, you can find Ace writing her book, developing her web-series, exploring a forest, jumping into a cold ocean or river, dancing by herself or gardening and hanging out with her thirty chickens and two cats. The past decade has led Ace to deeply explore her inner world through the healing arts, meditation, plant medicines, group therapy, yoga, travelling and breathwork. Passionate about community and connection, she continues to write and create and is grateful to bring a broad scope of knowledge and skills that all inform and enrich her endeavours. Her approach to teaching is playful, caring and open-hearted. With the aim being, to not only share skills that have greatly opened up her own path and career, but skills that are transferable to life and build genuine confidence, inspiration and ease."
