"Beyond some standard technique work including: Auditioning, scene study, and a little improv, we will touch on basic characterization with a strong emphasis on foundational work for all aspects of performance and story telling. These multiple tools will be highlighted from monologues, short dialogue work and two person scene work. Hopefully by our last class we will all have a basic understanding in our approach to acting as well as a few tricks to utilize when feeling lost in this ever expanding industry!.

Instructor - Jake Insley

Jacob was born and raised in Victoria BC. He has been performing for over 20 years with a balance between camera and stage. After graduating Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, he took many of those skills and worked at The Second City and various comedy clubs around Toronto. Feeling homesick he moved back to the West Coast to pursue more film and tv work and got cast in multiple feature films, and a few commercials and TV pilots. He was called back to Toronto to develop a TV show for The Discovery Channel and quickly switched gears to produce and direct, starting a successful and small production company Called Mortar and Pestle Productions. After exhausting himself with corporate commercials throughout Canada and the US he turned back to creative filmmaking and, feeling homesick again, has now moved back to Victoria to work on smaller grass roots work with One Yoga, The Spiritual Athlete and some self produced shorts and creative content. Most recently he has been trying to deepen his connection with the Local Vancouver Island Scene and Spotlight Academy has been an amazing spark to develop many new and fulfilling relationships.
